Damart Factory

The easily recognisable "Damart chimney" is a regular haunt of Peregrine Falcons. We provided guidance to Damart on installing a nest box for the Falcons, which Damart generously funded and carried out the works for. A fantastic gesture from our favourite clothing manufacturer!

The box was installed in early 2023, probably too late for the Peregrines to find and use the box that year. The first reported sighting of a Peregrine on the box was in February 2024 but Peregrines did not breed - installing nestboxes is not an exact science! We hope we will see successful breeding here in the future.

Where to watch

The Peregrines will perch on any face of the chimney so it might be necessary to move to different locations to check all perch points for Peregrines - binoculars or a telescope is recommended. The nest box is sited on the north face so is best viewed from the 5 Rise Locks or Hill Side Road area. The Peregrines sometimes also perch on the Whitley Street chimney.

We're keen to hear about your sightings of the Peregrines, particularly if you see the birds using the nest box or behaviour indicative of breeding (undulating display flight or mating).
